William H. Schaeffer, age 85 of Main Road, Friends Cove, died Friday, July 8, 2016 at his home.

He was born on Tuesday, March 10, 1931, near Rainsburg in Colerain Township, the son of the late Howard L. and Margaret (Morgart) Schaeffer.

On December 29, 1956, at the Zion Reformed Church in Rainsburg, he married Charlotte Mae (Koontz) Schaeffer. This year would mark 60 years of marriage.

She survives along with a son, Charles H. Schaeffer of Friends Cove, a daughter, Lisa (Schaeffer) Miller, wife of Brice Miller of Bordertown,  a special nephew, David Schaeffer, husband of Gwen (Stottlemyer) of Friends Cove; three grandchildren, Margaret (Schaeffer) Harr, wife of Brian,  Heather (Schaeffer) Harpster, wife of Jason both of Friends Cove and Holly Schaeffer and companion Danny Oakes of West Virginia, three great grandsons, Brian Harr, Jr., Curtis Smith and Charles Harr and two great granddaughters, Kelli Harr & Sydnie Smith.  He is also survived by a sister, Mary (Schaeffer) Boore of Friends Cove.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald C. Schaeffer and sisters, Margaret R. (Schaeffer) Warfield and Jane C. (Schaeffer) Fisher.

Mr. Schaeffer graduated from Bedford High School with the Class of 1948.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War.  Bill was a parts foreman for International Harvester and went on to retired as Supervisor of the Parts Distribution Center of the Electromotive Division of General Motors Corporation in 1991.  He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and a former member of the Yeager Memorial Lutheran Church, near Rainsburg.

Bill was known for his love of family and he spent many years researching his ancestry.  Along with his wife Charlotte, he hosted many gatherings, including three separate family reunions.  One of his favorite get-togethers was the Schaeffer School Picnic, a celebration of his one room school house days.

Bill was an avid apiarist and a member of the "2Cs and a Bee Association".  He loved sharing his knowledge of bees and beekeeping with school children and enjoyed assisting beginner bee keepers.  Bill was a member of BEDCO Investment Club.  He was also lifetime member of the Friends Cove Sportsman's Club and in his earlier days was an avid hunter and fisherman, a shared pastime with family and friends.

He was a loving, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend and he is going to be very missed by his family, his community and all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford with Rev. John Bennett officiating.

Interment will be held at Woods Church Cemetery, Colerain Township.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Geisel Funeral Home in Bedford.
