William Glenn Koontz, 89 of New Enterprise died Saturday December 3rd at the James E Van Zandt Medical Center in Altoona.
He was born on July 22, 1927 in South Woodbury Township. the son of the late Wilson and EdithSmith Koontz.
He married Blanche (Hillegass) Will Koontz of New Enterprise. Along with his wife, he is survived by his son, William L Koontz of New Enterprise and step-son, L.G. ( Woody) Will and wife Betsy of Marshall ,Virginia. Bill is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jillian Koontz U.S. Air Force in Korea, Christopher Koontz, Ryan Will, Kelly Will Meagher, Phillip Hopkins, Somer Sentz, Tyler Smith, ten great grandchildren, brother, Claire Koontz of New Enterprise, brother, Bernard Koontz of Carlisle and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his sisters, Thelma Hall and Florence Feight and brothers, John and Jake.
William was a graduate Of Replogle High School. He was in the Merchant Marines delivering goods to Poland after WWII with trips also to Venezuela. Bill served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was a P.O.W. for 838 days in a Chinese prisoner of war camp. Bill worked as a farmer, orchard worker/owner and retired as Postmaster from the U.S. Postal Service, Claysburg. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, and especially working on his farm. Bill was a loving husband, father, and step- father and grandfather.
A Funeral service will be held on at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Koontz Church of the Brethren in New Enterprise with Rev. Mike Benner officiating.
Interment will be held at Schellsburg Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be
Accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
