Mr. Vernon R. Nunamaker, 82, of Crissman Road, New Paris, died at 10:22 AM, Monday, February 4th, 2013 at Altoona Hospital.
Mr. Nunamaker was born in E. St. Clair Township on Sunday, November 23, 1930, the son of the late Bruce V. and Mildred L. (Bowser) Nunamaker.
On January 28, 1951, he married Lavon P. (Nicodemus) Nunamaker. In addition to his wife he is survived by Daughter- Linda D. wife of Glenn Oldham, Bedford; Daughter- Lorraine M. wife of Stephen Helsley, Hollidaysburg; Daughter- Cathy E. wife of Keith Stevanus, Windber; Sister- Janet L. Hillegass, Martinsburg, WV; Sister- Llene M. wife of Owen Miller, New Paris. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jeremy Oldham, Janna Swope, Clarissa Zorovich, Amy Cunningham, Justin Stevanus, Brandon Stevanus and Brian Helsley, and seven great grandchildren, Asher Oldham, Alayna Oldham, Travis Molliver, Zachary Molliver, Alivia Molliver, Levi Bem and Thomas Swope. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Zorovich
Vernon was a member and treasurer of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He also served on the administrative council of the church. Vernon was employed as a custodian for the Chestnut Ridge School District from 1955 - 1995. He was also a school bus contractor. Vernon served on the E. St. Clair Municipal Authority and was a member of the Grange.
Vernon enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and believed that their education was of the utmost importance. He was especially proud that three of his grandsons, Jeremy, Justin and Brandon, achieved Eagle Scout status.
A Funeral Service will be held at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg at 11:30 AM on Thursday, February 7th, 2013 with Rev. J. R. Virgin officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Schellsburg.
