Mr. Steve Vargo, 96, of Spruce Hollow Road, Alum Bank, died at 11:25 PM, Monday, July 28th, 2014 at Golden LIving - Hillview in Altoona.
Mr. Vargo was born in Windber on Monday, March 25, 1918, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Koval) Vargo.
On June 13, 1943, he married Eva (Gerula) Vargo. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2006.
He is survived by Son- Leonard S. husband of Jane Garda Vargo, Pittsburgh; Son- James L. husband of Carmen Luz Lohman Vargo, Houston, TX; Daughter- Helen M. "Sis" Turner, Altoona; Sister- Pauline Verrill, California. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Vargo, Andrew Vargo & John Vargo and by three sisters, Margaret Molnar, Mary Sepety & Edith Vargo.
Steve was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Bedford and the Bedford Moose Lodge #480. He graduated from Windber High School and the Pittsburgh School of Trades. Steve retired from Interstate Motor Freight where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He also owned and operated an automobile repair shop in Pleasantville for many years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Bedford at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 1st, 2014 with Father Donald Dusza celebrant.
Committal will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, in Pleasantville, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
