Mr. Stanley W. Hoenstine, 98, of Business 220, Bedford, died at 4:20 AM, Friday, January 14th, 2011 at Donahoe Manor.

Mr. Hoenstine was born in Bedford County, near Cessna on Thursday, March 7, 1912,  the son of the late Bird Ervin and Nellie Etta (McCreary) Hoenstine.

He was first married to Mary (Mowry) Hoenstine.  She preceded him in death on January 19, 1991.  Then on December 26, 1996, he married Jannie P. (Miller) Hoenstine.

She survives along with Son- Earl E. husband of  Edith (Long) Hoenstine, Osterburg; Daughter- Lynette H. wife of  Ross Cook, Bedford; Son- David husband of  Brenda (Rexroth) Hoenstine, Dover. He is also survived by five grandchildren, two great grandchildren,  two  step great  grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Brent Hoenstine and by two sisters, Helen R. Koontz and Agnes H. Miller

In 1937, he and his wife Mary and their family joined the St. Paul's Reformed Church.  In 1970, their membership was then transferred to Sloans Hollow United Methodist Church, where Stan still holds a membership.  He worked in the youth ministry in connection with both churches summer camp programs.

Mr. Hoenstine was a 1932 graduate of Shippensburg, with a degree in education.  He then taught for 38 and a half years in Bedford County Schools.  He and his wife owned two farms in the area and lived on the farms for 34 years.  Stan did carpentry work part-time and was a real estate agent for 15 years.  He owned and operated a small nursery near Cessna for over 13 years.

During his employment as an educator, Mr. Hoenstine belonged to the MEA, PSEA and CREA.  After his retirement, he became a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

A Funeral Service will be held  at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, Pleasantville at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 17th, 2011 with Rev. J.R. Virgin officiating.

Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the funeral home in Pleasantville.
