Mr. Sherman Howard Fix, 93, of Preston St., Bedford, formerly of Lincoln Highway, Bedford, passed away at 8:35 AM, Friday, March 14th, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Fix was born in Kearney on Sunday, March 28, 1920, the son of the late Russell and Edith (Anderson) Fix.
On December 23, 1946, he married Ruthanna (Stultz) Fix. His passing ends a union of over 67 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Wesley husband of Colleen (McCardell) Fix, Bedford; Daughter- Cheryl wife of Ike Atkinson, Kent Island, MD; Daughter- Pam wife of Rob Eagleson, Bedford; Daughter- Jill wife of Kevin Cornell, Bedford; Brother- Max Fix, Sterling, VA; Sister- Darlene "Toots" Long, Bedford; Sister- Dixie Young, Bedford. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and one on the way. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jamie Eagleson, four brothers, Elmer Fix, Bill Fix, Gene Fix, Orville Fix and by a sister, Donna Jane Hale.
Sherman was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Bedford. He enlisted in Army in 1941 during WWII and stationed at Camp Croft, SC. He was then stationed in the South Pacific and served under General Douglas MacArthur. Sherman worked for Howard Johnson's before entering into the Army. Once he returned from serving his country, he went back to work for Howard Johnson's and was employed there for 45 years.
Sherman was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #320 F& AM, a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113 for 65 years and a former member of the Bedford Elks.
Upon his retirement, he and Ruthanna assisted their son, Wesley at the Country Way in New Paris and at the Carriage House in Bedford. Sherman was always available to his family and would help them with anything they needed, this included being both a handyman and chauffeuring his grandchildren to their activities.
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 17th, 2014 with Rev. Paul Claycomb officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2:00 - 6:00 PM at the funeral home in Bedford, where a Masonic Lodge Service will be held.
