Mrs. Shelby M. VanPelt, 74, of Younts Road, Bedford, died at 5:53 PM, Friday, January 4th, 2013 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. VanPelt was born in Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday, January 12, 1938, the daughter of the late Thomas William and Dorothy (McVey) Milliken.
On September 28, 1958, she married David G. VanPelt, Jr. In addition to her husband she is survived by Son- David G. VanPelt, III, Kennedyville, MD; Daughter- Janet wife of Glen Smith, Bedford; Daughter- Dorothy wife of Charles Howell,III, FL; Son- Thomas VanPelt, New Paris; Sister- Carol Stanley, DE; Sister- Joann Sparks, DE. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Arthur "Artie" McMillen, her daughter, Leslie Anne VanPelt and her sister, Jane Kampmann.
Shelby was a member of the New London Presbyterian Church in Chester County. She was a dairy farmer and was employed as a secretary and payroll manager for Thykol Industries in Elkton, MD. Shelby was a Cub Scout Den Mother in Chester County. She was an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress, making clothing for her children.
A Graveside Service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bedford, at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 with Pastor Donna Wolfinger officiating.
