Sara Jane Steele, 91, of Hopewell, died May 8, 2021, at her home after a one year struggle with Leukemia.
She was born March 5, 1930, in Everett, to Archie and Celia (Hamm) Foor. She graduated from Everett Area High School in 1947 and was then employed for several years at the former Lion Manufacturing Co. in Everett. On November 12, 1949, she married Donald R. Steele in Winchester, VA, and they celebrated 71 years together.
She was a devoted mother; supporting her children through the years by being a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Northern Bedford H.S. Band Parents. She valued education and encouraged all of her children to complete college.
She loved traveling and enjoyed many international trips with her husband through the Cove Lion’s Club. She loved playing cards and board games, dancing, camping, bowling, watching RFD TV and socializing with friends and family. She cooked countless meals at the family home enjoyed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was past president and a Charter Member of the Cove Lioness Club with over 20 years of service and a member of the Hopewell Township Women’s Club. She volunteered her time generously at the Southern Cove Volunteer Fire Company, as well as the local blood bank.
She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Steele; sons Richard Steele (Darla), of Saxton, Denny Steele and partner, Sharon, of Everett; daughters Karen Steele (Nancy), of Altoona, and Teresa Steele (Norman Sollenberger), of New Enterprise. She is also survived by grandchildren Ryan Steele, Kevin Steele, and Morgan Barber, as well as great grandchildren Hayden, Sophie, Bennett, Emeline, Harrison, and Lena.
She is also survived by her sisters, Peggy Cessna, Nancy Steele, Olive Walters, Lucille Ranck, Barbara Clark, and dear sister-in-law, Helen Foor. As well as dear nieces and nephews who kept in touch with her during her illness and brightened her days. She was preceded in death by brothers, Archie Foor Jr. and Bobby Foor, and sisters, Florence Stefan, Lois Albert, and Judy Woy.

A memorial service will be held at Geisel Funeral Home, Everett, PA, on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Robert Robertson officiating. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., Everett from 10-11 a.m.
