Mrs. Ruth Adeline McDevitt, 92, of Bedford died at 5:46 AM, Thursday, April 24th, 2014 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.
Mrs. McDevitt was born in Johnstown on Monday, September 26, 1921, the daughter of the late John A. and Lillie (Gordon) Slick.
In 1945, in Connecticut, she married Edward M. McDevitt. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1983.
She is survived by Son- John Edward husband of Rochelle (Tadaro) McDevitt, Ft. Myers, FL; Son- Thomas L. husband of Kathy (Ball) McDevitt, Bedford; Daughter- Sharon Ruth McDevitt, Fort Myers, FL; Brother- Emile Slick, Bedford; Brother- Sam husband of Ruthie Slick, Bedford; Brother- Chuck Slick, Bedford. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Edward, John, James, Samantha, Erin & Jason, and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Arthur and three brothers, John Gordon Slick, Arthur F. Slick & James Elwood Slick.
Ruth was a member of the Wolfsburg United Methodist Church and a past member of the Bedford Soroptimist Club. She was a homemaker and a former co-owner of Ed's Steakhouse in Bedford, where she was very well known to many of the patrons. Until recently, she frequently stopped in the restaurant for lunch and to visit with the staff. She and her husband enjoyed many winters in their home in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Ruth was an excellent cook, who loved preparing meals and having her Monday night picnics for all of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother & great grandmother and will be greatly missed by many friends and her family.
The family of Mrs. McDevitt would like to give a special thanks to all of the caregivers for the compassion and kindness they showed to her in recent years.
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 with Pastor Beth Pyles officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to call on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Tuesday 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the funeral home in Bedford.
