Mr. Russell L. Berkey, 89, of Church Road, Imler (Pavia), died at 7:15 AM, Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Berkey was born in Salemville on Wednesday, February 18, 1925, the son of the late J. Elmer and Florence (Rouzer) Berkey.
On June 5, 1951, he married Lois Jean (Burkett) Berkey.
In addition to his wife he is survived by Daughter- Marla J. wife of Jim Davis, Pavia; Daughter- Wendy wife of Bobby Townsend, Sidman; Daughter- Debbie L. wife of Kelvin Martin, Lovely; Daughter-in-Law- Marie Berkey, Windber. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kerry, three brothers, Joseph, Charles & Homer and a sister, Margaret.
Mr. Berkey was affiliated with the Mt. Zion Reformed Church in Pavia. He served in the US Navy during W.W.II. Russell retired as a crane operator for US Steel in Johnstown after 34 years of employment. He enjoyed attending Blue Grass Festivals and was a former director of the Pavia Cemetery Association .
A Funeral Service will be held at Mt. Zion Reformed Church, Pavia at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 21st, 2014 with Pastor Tim Mock officiating.
Interment will be held at Pavia Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville and Friday 12:30 - 1:00 PM at the Mt. Zion Reformed Church in Pavia.
