Roger L. Hillegass, Sr.
January 27, 1929 — January 25, 2015
Mr. Hillegas was born in Fairhope on Sunday, January 27, 1929, the son of the late Milton A. and Clara (Livingston) Hillegas.
On May 27, 1950, he married Lena M. (Pyle) Hillegas. She preceded him in death on November 25, 1993.
He is survived by Son- Roger L. Hillegas, Jr. husband of Tina (Gelpi) Hillegas, Schellsburg; Daughter- Sharon L. wife of Harold Pope, Schellsburg; Daughter- Susan D. wife of William Hinson, Alum Bank; Daughter- Barbara L. wife of Andrew Cheke, Fishertown; Son- James M. husband of Krista (Hite) Hillegas, Bedford; Daughter- Lisa G. wife of Lynford Weyant, Schellsburg; Son- Randy D. Hillegas, Schellsburg; Brother- Samuel Richard Hillegas, Fairhope; Sister- Eleanor Wagner, Annapolis, MD; Special Friend & Companion- Lillian Webb. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Wilmer Emerson Hillegas & Sherwood Hillegas & sister, Mary Meadows
Roger was a lifelong farmer and worked as a forklift operator for Lane Metal for 24 years and for NESL for six. He was a member of the Point Church of the Brethren. Roger loved to laugh and made it his mission to bring joy and laughter into the lives of others. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held at Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg at 2:30 PM on Thursday, January 29th, 2015 with Pastor Dave Schoenberger officiating.
Interment will be held at Schellsburg Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Schellsburg.
