Mr. Roger E. "Gene" Pembrooke, 63, of Sunnyside Road, Bedford died Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 at his home, peacefully with his dog Mollie by his side.
Mr. Pembrooke was born in Roaring Spring on Friday, January 9, 1948, the son of the late Andrew Guthridge and Mary Jane Pembrooke.
On October 17, 1992, he married Victoria (Spencer) Pembrooke. In addition to his wife he is survived by Daughter- Melissa wife of David Crawshaw, Saxton; Son- Bryan G. Pembrooke and fiancé Mary Jo Clark, East Freedom; Son- Kevin T. husband of Cassi (Morningstar) Pembrooke; Daughter- Christy Spencer, Manns Choice; Reared in the home with- Connie Lang, Huntington; Brother- Don Guthridge, Broad Top. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kylee, Jared, Nate, Justin, Julie and Leandra, and one great granddaughter, Olivia. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by nephew, Michael Guthridge.
Gene was a 1965 graduate of Tussy Mt. High School. He served in the US Navy on the USS Neptune during the Vietnam Era. Gene was employed as a coal miner for Beth Energy , Mine 78 in Windber and retired from New Enterprise Stone and Lime where he was employed as a pipe layer. He was affliated with the Claysburg Bible Church.
Gene was a past commander of the VFW Post #4129 in Saxton. He was a lifetime member of the Bedford VFW and the Bedford American Legion. Gene was also a member of both the Fort Bedford and the Broad Top Honor Guards. He also participated in the Relay for Life events. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed NASCAR and watching the Steelers, Pirates and St. Louis Rams.
Gene was always telling jokes and making people laugh. He loved listening and playing bluegrass music, especially playing his mandolin. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle who will greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 2nd, 2011 with Pastor Keith Showalter officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park Bedford.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 5:00 - 9:00 PM at the funeral home and Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Fort Bedford and Broad Top Honor Guards.
