Roger A. Whetstone, 81, of Adams Run Road, Bedford, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at his residence.
Mr. Whetstone was born in Cumberland, MD on February 22, 1941, son of the late Robert Henry and Josephine (Combs) Whetstone.
On January 18, 1974, Roger married Lila J. (Hillegass) Whetstone. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2014.
He is survived by 3 sons- Joseph Whetstone, Tallahassee, FL; Michael Whetstone, Bonaire, GA; Timothy Whetstone, New Paris; and 2 daughters- Shirlene Knopsnyder, Bedford and Melony Lynch, Bedford; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, sister- Sally Whetstone, half-brother- Terry Whetstone and half-sister Margaret Whetstone. Along with his parents and wife Roger was preceded in death by 2 sons- Roger Jr. and Robert.
Roger was the owner and operator of Whetstone’s Amoco Station on Route 30 and also worked for Shawnee State Park where he retired from. Throughout his career he also worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic.
He was a member of the Manns Choice Church of God.
Roger loved his family, his farm, his brothers and sisters at the Manns Choice Church of God and his farm dogs, Fred and Rosie. Roger raced cars at Bedford and Jennerstown Speedways for many years which he greatly enjoyed, and he loved hunting with his sons and looked forward to it every fall.
He was a hard-working, humble and kind man who will be greatly missed by all.
A Visitation will be held from 10-11AM on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Manns Choice Church of God with a Funeral Service at 11:00AM with Mindy Hillegass and Pastor Aaron Whetstone officiating.
Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Manns Choice.
