Mr. Robert Louis "Bob" Rhoades, 80, of Bedford (Rainsburg), passed away Wednesday, February 25th, 2015 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
Mr. Rhoades was born in Johnstown on Saturday, June 23, 1934, the son of the late Harry C. and Rosella (Jones) Rhoades.
On October 20, 1956, he married Carol L. (Hinson) Rhoades. In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Robert, II "Bobby" Rhoades, Chevy Chase, MD; Daughter- Cindy widow of Mike Bodin, Silver Spring, MD; Daughter- Jenifer wife of Brian Thomas, Frederick, MD; Granddaughter- Lauren, Hollywood, MD; Mother-in-Law- Mary Hinson, Osterburg; Sister- Ginger Griffiths, Johnstown; Brother- Ron Rhoades, Youngstown, OH; Sister- Judy Leonard, Idaho Falls, ID; Sister-in-Law- Joanne Rhoades, Youngstown, OH; Brother-in-Law- Glenn husband of Pat Hinson, Osterburg; Sister-in-Law- Donna wife of Alan Nycum, East Freedom; Brother-in-Law- Herb Hinson and significant other, Midge, Dover; Sister-in-Law- Peggy Hinson, Osterburg and many nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents and son-in-law, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Rhoades and by two brothers-in-law, Fred Hinson & Jim Hinson.
Bob attended the Bedford United Methodist Church. He served in the US. Army, stationed in Hanau, Germany with the 4th & 3rd Armored Division. His wife joined him in Germany and they made many friends during their time there. Upon completion of his service, they moved to Bedford County, living here for two years before moving to Maryland. Bob became an electrical contractor and owned and operated the Total Electric Company. While living in Maryland, Bob & Carol owned three boats. They enjoyed taking family and friends fishing and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay. Bob also enjoyed drag racing at the 75 & 80 Track, where he won many titles and trophies. Bob and Carol were members and were very active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary & the Maryland Watermen's Association.
Bob retired at the age of 62. In 2007, Bob and Carol returned to Pennsylvania. Bob was dirt track enthusiast and in his youth, raced at various Bedford County tracks. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting & classic cars. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he will be greatly missed .
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 2nd, 2015 with Pastor Jeff Welsch officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and on Monday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the funeral home in Bedford.
