Mr. Raymond G. Shepherd, 74, of Shangri Lane, Bedford, died Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.
Mr. Shepherd was born in Montpelier, ID on Friday, December 5, 1941, the son of the late Edward "Pete" and Julie Margaret (Gerber) Shepherd.
On October 11, 1986, he married Edith P. "Edie" (Growden) Shepherd. In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Brian Shepherd husband of Michelle, Wisconsin; Son- Steven Shepherd husband of Michelle, Hawaii; Daughter- Laura Shepherd, Centerville, UT; Son- John Shepherd husband of Reiko, St. George, UT; Sister- Julie Stockwell, Salt Lake City, UT; Brother- Ted Shepherd husband of Leila Shepherd, Idaho; Brother- Russell Shepherd husband of Arlene, Sandy, UT. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and one great grandson.
Ray was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in various positions within the church and was currently the Young Men's President. Ray served for 20 years in US Navy where he was a Nuclear Medicine Technician and a Pharmacy Technician. Upon retiring from the service, he worked at numerous Nuclear Power Plants across the country.
Upon moving to Bedford County, Ray volunteered for many years as an EMT for the Cumberland Valley Fire Company. He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113 and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Ray loved antique cars and owned and showed cars in Bedford County. He also loved car racing and raced Hobby Stock Cars at the Bedford Speedway. He currently works at concessions at the race track in Bedford. Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time helping his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 1st, 2016 with Branch President Lenny Gates conducting the service.
Interment will be held at Union Cemetery, Centerville.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford and on Monday from 10:00 - 10:30 AM at the church.
