Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11: 28-30.
Peggy J. Henry 79, of Bedford entered into eternal rest on February 14, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Peggy was born on September 17, 1936 and was the daughter of the late James F. and Naomi Carper of Woodbury.
On April 13, 1959 she married H. Landon Henry of Salemville. They moved to Bedford and began farming. They raised their four children on what’s now known as Peg-Land Farms in Dutch Corner.
Peggy is survived by her husband Landon, three sons, Duane Henry and significant other, Celeste Davis, Kelly Henry and significant other, Beth Dunn & Mark Henry and significant other, BethAnn Tichnell, all of Bedford and a daughter Wanda Detwiler wife of Ron of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Jessica Hirsh, Michigan, Jennifer DeWall and Michael Detwiler, both of Tennessee, Levi Henry-Wakeman, New Paris, and Johnathon Henry, Bedford & four great-grandchildren Hank and Hattie DeWall and Walter and Evelyn Hirsh. Peggy is also survived by her siblings, Wayne Carper husband of Karen, Hollidaysburg, Joyce Bush wife of Don, Robert Carper husband of Belinda and Steve Carper all of Martinsburg.
Peggy served the community of Bedford as an elected officer on the Farm Service Committee and also a Bedford Co. Auditor. She worked on the Bedford Co. Dairy Princess committee, worked the local elections and also worked the food booth at the Bedford Co. Speedway. She was an active member of the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church.
Her Grandchildren called her Nee-Nee, friends and neighbors called her Granny but most simply called her “Mom”. To know her was to love her and she loved in return tenfold, she will be missed beyond measure.
A funeral service will be held at the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church at 1486 Quaker Valley Road New Paris on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dan Oldham officiating. Committal and meal directly following the funeral at the church.
Interment will be held at the Koontz Church of the Brethren Cemetery, New Enterprise.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 3:00-8:00 P.M and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church.
