Mrs. Nellie A. Karns, 87, of Woodside St., Bedford died Saturday, December 7th, 2013 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Karns was born in Jeannette on Tuesday, November 9, 1926, the daughter of the late H. Ward and Anna Catherine (Ruby) Herline.
Nellie was the widow of Paul W. Karns, who preceded her in death on September 3, 1995.
She is survived by Son- Charles B. "Chuck" widower of Nancy (Hill) Fetters, Bedford; Son- Darrell L. husband of Deborah (Resavage) Fetters, Bedford; Grandson- Ronald Fetters, Layton, UT; Granddaughter- Cathy Herron, Pikeville, NC; Grandson- Michael Fetters, Bedford; Granddaughter- Charissa Fetters, Bedford and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Fetters, a grandson, C.B. Fetters, Jr., three brothers, Brandon, Harvey, & H. Ward, Jr. and by four sisters, Agnes Davis, Ruby Garland, Lurena Matusko & Catherine Bittner.
Nellie attended the Manns Choice Church of God. She was employed at the Howard Johnson's Commissary on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for 20 years. Nellie then worked as a housekeeper for Your Building Centers and for the Ketchum family on their farm.
She enjoyed traveling, especially to see her family in Alaska, Germany and Texas. Nellie also enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 11th, 2013 with Pastor Richard Whetstone officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the funeral home in Bedford.
