Mildred Jean Rowan 92, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Colonial Courtyard in Bedford.
She was born September 21, 1923 at the home of her parents on Mount Washington in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of the late Rudolph T. and Anna (Yeager) Camin.
Her husband Chester L. Rowan preceded her in death on February 20, 1989. They were married on March 25, 1954 in Harrisburg. In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her son Scott R. Rowan on May 18, 1997.
She is survived by her son, Mark W. Rowan married to the former Debbie Wolfhope.
She graduated from South Hills High School in 1941. She then graduated from Shady Side Hospital School of Nursing in 1944 and from Saint Francis Hospital School of Anesthesia in 1946. Jean worked at Shady Side and Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh and Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg as an anesthetist.
She enjoyed many crafts including: needlepoint, cross-stitch, metal work, crochet, beadwork and working with plastic canvas. She created numerous beautiful hand made Christmas ornaments and decorations. Jean enjoyed gardening and planting flowers at her home.
The family would like to thank all who helped with her care during a very difficult time.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016, from 10-2. Family and friends are invited to stop by and see some of Jean’s beautiful cross-stitch and other crafts. The service will be upstairs in The Hall At Kinton’s Knob located in the Bedford Historical Society Barn. The barn is located at 6441 Lincoln Highway, Bedford.
