Mr. Melvin E. Davis, 93, of Burnt House Road, Imler, passed away Friday, November 25th, 2016 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mr. Davis was born in Weyant on Friday, December 22, 1922, he was the son of the late Israel Maxmillian and Amanda B. (Weyant) Davis. He was the last surviving member of his family,
He is survived by Daughter- Aldene wife of Ronald Evans, Fishertown; Daughter- Regina Hengst, Fishertown; Son- M. Ray husband of Tammy Davis, Bedford; Son- Perry Davis, Roebling, NJ. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Chad Kauffman, Brent Kauffman, Dr. Yardlee Kauffman, Ryan Hengst, Jeremy Davis,Jenna Taylor, Krystal Davis, Aaron Davis and Amanda Davis, and nine great grandchildren, Jackson Kauffman, Madeline Kauffman, Colten Kauffman, Kaylee Boyd, Bryton Hengst,Britney Hengst, Brianna Hengst, Brooklynn Davis and baby, Carly Taylor. He was formerly married to Betty Cathers Davis Kidd. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Janelle Hengst and the following siblings, Charles, Harry, Ivan,Chester, Norman, Edgar, Della Lingenfelter, May Barefoot, Evelyn Mock, Edna Mock,and an infant sister, Olive Davis.
Melvin was a lifetime member of the Weyant United Methodist Church. He was a 1941 graduate of Bedford High School. Melvin retired from Bethlehem Steel, as a clerk of Metallurgical Department, with 25 years of service. While working at Bethlehem Steel, he was also farming on his home place. Later in life, he worked as a guard with Hedstrom Corporation. He was an avid hunter. Melvin was a wonderful father, grandfather, uncle and friend and he will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held at Weyant United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 with Pastor John Mackie & Pastor Gary Blankley officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the church.
