Mrs. Mary Katheryn Miller, age 91, of Bedford, PA passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 8th, 2017.
Mrs. Miller was born at home in St. Clairsville on Sunday, October 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Wilbert and Beatrice (Croyle) Foor.
On January 2, 1946, she married Melvin "Mel" Miller in Cumberland, MD by Rev. Wakeman. Her passing ends a marriage of 71 years.
In addition to her husband she is survived by a sister, Dixie Defibaugh, brother, Ronald Foor, married to Mary (Garber) Foor, brother, Robert Foor and many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her dear sisters, Orielda Louise Miller, Vivian Fisher, infant sister, Phyllis and her sister-in-law, Mickey (Kona) Foor.
Mary's husband and church were the center of her life. She belonged to the Wolfsburg United Methodist Church and attending church services, Sunday School and Bible Study were very important to her. She was active in the church as a Sunday School Teacher and held many positions, including trustee and church treasurer. Mary was a devoted Christian, who served the Lord all of her life.
Mary was a 1944 graduate of Bedford High School and during W.W.II, she worked at the Naval School at the Bedford Springs and then worked at Sylvania in Altoona. After her marrying, she moved to Bedford and worked at Maurice's Department Store and then became a dental assistant for Dr. Brightbill. Mary went on to work at Hedstrom and retired after 20 years of employment. After her retirement, Mary volunteered at the Bedford Hospital Palliative Care Unit for five years. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Bedford Food Bank and for RSVP, where she enjoyed her time ushering at Old Bedford Village. She was an avid fan of the Steelers and Pirates and loved gardening, bowling in various women's leagues and spending time with her husband and her extended family. Mary was a caring, loving lady and she will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff of First Choice in Home Care and Home Nursing Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Mary.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 13th, 2017 at the Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford with Pastor Beth Pyles officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and on Friday from 10:00 -11:00 AM at the Geisel Funeral Home in Bedford.
