Mrs. Mary Louise Koontz, 89, of Main Road, Bedford, died Tuesday, October 24th, 2017 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Koontz was born in Friends Cove on November 9, 1927, the daughter of the late Ellis and Sarah (Robinson) Diehl.
On November 5, 1950, she married Joe E. Koontz. In addition to her husband she is survived by Sons - Bruce E. Koontz companion of LaRhonda Batzel, Bedford; Joel W. Koontz, Bedford; Thomas L. husband of Tammy (Clotfelter) Koontz, Arlington, VA; Grandsons - Brad M. husband of Miranda (Reed) Koontz, Bedford; Jeffrey K. husband of Maria (Hall) Koontz, Hesston; Joshua B. husband of Valery (Hill) Koontz, Hainesport, NJ; Kasey J. husband of Natalie (Glaug) Koontz, West Chester; their mother Carla (Pencil) Koontz, Bedford; Great Grandchildren- Joey, AJ, Will, Lizzy, Jacob & Zoey; Brother- Robert husband of Sally Diehl, Bedford and Sister- Ethel Broderick, Bedford. She was preceded in death by an infant great granddaughter, Mary, a sister, Helen Wertz and three brothers, A. James Diehl, Fred Diehl and Roger Diehl.
Mary was a 1945 graduate of Bedford High School and a lifetime member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. She had a passion for playing the piano and played at the church for many years. Mary was a true farm girl and loved to cook. She was employed at the Bedford High School Cafeteria from 1971-1993, where she was able to cook for thousands of kids. In addition to cooking, Mary loved to bake. She was a lovely woman, who was devoted to her family and church. Mary was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed, especially by the love of her life, Joe.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at the Geisel Funeral Home in Bedford and on Monday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Trinity United Church of Christ.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 30th, 2017 with Rev. Paul Claycomb officiating.
Interment will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery, Colerain Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ.
