Lynn E. "Jake" Miller

Lynn E. “Jake” Miller, 68, died March 2, 2017 in his home on South Juliana St., Bedford.

He was the son of the late Ivan “Hutch” and Sarah (Ritchey) Miller.  He is survived by his brother, Dale Miller and wife Holly of Asheville, NC.

Jake was born August 16, 1948 near Fishertown and graduated from Chestnut Ridge High School in 1966.  Lynn was an honor student, and in his senior year received the John Phillip Sousa Music Award and the American Legion Good Citizen Award.

Lynn served in the US Army in Korea for two years, and upon his return home, he studied at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Lynn was an excellent drummer, who played his first job at age 13 and continued playing with bands in the local area for most of his life.  For a time, he toured nationally with the Jimmy Velvet Band of Nashville.  Jake first love was always music, especially jazz.

When he wasn’t playing music, Lynn painted houses with his father, worked for CETA , and then he worked for twenty-five years with the Bedford County Office on Aging.  He was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church, where he accepted Jesus the Christ as his personal savior.

Lynn was a friend to all he met, and will be remembered for his sweet spirit and his happy smile.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Daniel Oldham officiating.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Geisel Funeral Home in Bedford.

Interment will be held at Fishertown Cemetery.
