Lois Beachly Armstrong, age 89, of Bedford, PA, formerly of Portage, PA, died on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Colonial Courtyard in Bedford.  Born Monday, October 25, 1925 in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas M. Pringle and Emma (Masters) Pringle Sloan. Her husband of 52 years, George Armstrong, whom she married on September 7, 1949, preceded her in death in 2001.

A 1943 graduate of Portage High School, Lois then attended the Pennsylvania State University.  She was a member of the United Church of Schellsburg.  Early in her life, Lois worked in the Old Main building at Penn State.  She also served as the first fire tower operator at the Kinton Knob Fire Tower.  She enjoyed being a Brownie Scout leader, bowling, and roller skating.  Lois had a great love for animals.

She is survived by two children, Georgina Lois “Gigi” Fisher and husband Kenneth of Schellsburg, and George Armstrong and wife Anita of New Wilmington, PA; five grandchildren, Mandy Leonard and husband Brian of Central City, PA, Julie Hoffman and husband Eric of Bethel Park, PA, Kelly Winegardner and husband Adam of Chambersburg, PA, and Grant and Tara Armstrong of New Wilmington, PA; and three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Caleb, and Levi Leonard of Central City, PA.  In addition to her husband and parents, Lois is preceded in death by an infant daughter, and her brother Thomas M. Pringle, Jr.

Funeral services, under the direction of Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg, PA, will be private.
