John Fair, 66, educator/realtor/loving husband and father went home to his maker on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at UPMC Altoona. John had a long struggle following a car accident in 2006, a heart attack and strokes.
He was born on June 9, 1957 and was the first born to Ralph and Geraldine (Coughenour) Fair who proceeded him in death. John's other siblings included Thomas, Richard, Barbara, Bonnie and Robert. He also had 12 nieces and nephews.
John married Kay Burkett 38 years ago and was blessed and proud of his son John Remington Fair and his wonderful wife Camille Thompson. He was the grandpa to 3 beautiful and well-trained Blue Healers, Skylar, Ash, and Harley.
He was greatly loved by his brother Richard and his wife Doris, his father and mother in-law, Howard and Datha Burkett (who proceeded him in death), and brother and sister-in law, Charles and Brenda Burkett.
John earned his Bachelor's degree from Penn State University and Master's degree from West Virginia University. He enjoyed teaching and worked as a Penn State Extension agent in Bedford County with John Holbert, who he greatly admired. He taught college at Bedford County, Somerset County and the main campus of Allegany College of Maryland. John substitute taught in high schools in Bedford County and was a full-time teacher in 2 school districts in eastern PA. Additionally, John sold real estate through BGS & G and enjoyed making land and real estate investments. He also worked for Alternative Community Resource Program with at risk children and as a tutor.
John was a humble, honest and kind man, full of integrity, who helped and loved many people. However, when John felt an injustice had occurred or a wrong needed repaired, he did not hesitate to voice his concern, even if it meant a personal loss to him.
He loved to be physically active and enjoyed lifting heavy hay bales, cutting wood, and weightlifting when he was physically able. John valued his good friends and in his last hours was surrounded by family members, especially his brother Richard, to whom he was very close. John was a member of the Bedford evening Rotary club for many years and valued the member's friendship.
John was a dedicated member and leader and held many church callings throughout the years.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 3 PM. Friends and family will be received at 1:30 PM until the hour of services at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 160 Donahue Manor Road, Bedford, PA.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In leu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to In One Accord Ministries, formerly Love, INC, 80 State St, Everett, PA 15537 to their Wheels Away Program that provides those in need, free access to wheelchair vans.
