John E. Duffy

Bedford

John E. Duffy, 85, of Park Heights Road, Bedford went to be with the Lord on  January 12, 2021 at his residence.

He was born on November 8, 1935, in Osterburg, a son of Roller F. and June E. (MacCleery) Duffy.

On December 26, 1990, in Winchester, Virginia, he married Cheryl D. (Fetter) Duffy.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Ronnie Duffy of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania,  Jimmy Duffy of Frederick, Maryland, Tommy Duffy of Hanover, Maryland, Michael Barefoot of Middleburg, Florida, and daughter, Patrica Sharp of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania ; two brothers, James Duffy of Bedford, and Jack Duffy of New Paris, and one sister, Gail England of Everett;  seven grandchildren, Emily Duffy, Jonathan Duffy, Jacy Duffy, McKenzie Barefoot, Jeremy Nealy, Skylar Sundy, and  Greg Sharp; and special niece, Chris Colledge.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by; son, Franky Duffy; brother, Joseph Barry Duffy; two sisters Josephine Mellott and Joyce Corle; and one brother-in-law, Clark Mellott.

John retired as a Staff Sergeant from the army on June 30, 1974 after serving 20 years. He served three tours in Germany, one in Puerto Rico, and 2 ½  in Phu Tai, Vietnam where he worked with “Operation Handshake”. He worked at numerous jobs after retiring from the army and in later years was always working outside on some project.

He was an avid archeologist and collector of Indian Relics following in the footsteps of his Father Roller F. Duffy and Uncle Lee MacCleery. He published a book about his experiences of collecting relics entitled “Through My Eyes… The Story of Three Amateur Archeologists from Bedford County Pennsylvania ”. He loved restoring old Volkswagens. He always tried to help friends and family. He will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Service will be private due to the Covid 19 Virus.

Interment at Bedford County Memorial Park.
