Jeffrey W. Onstead

Jeffery W. Onstead, 72, of Cortland Drive,  New Paris, died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Magee Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Mr. Onstead was born in Bedford on September 20, 1948,  son of the late Merle W. and Betty L. (Cuppett) Onstead.

On April 5, 1970 Jeff married Beatrice K. (McCreary)  Onstead. She preceded him in death on November 1, 2001.

He is survived by  Daughter- Julie K. wife of  Jassim Hassan, Windber; Son- Brent A. Onstead and Tanja Sears , Arizona; Grandchildren Liam, Isaac, Avery, Parker, Owen and Olivia; Sister- Judy L. widow of  E. Statler Miller, Bedford; Sister- Joann L. wife of  Robert Callihan, New Paris; Brother- Joel W. husband of  Sherry Onstead, Schellsburg; Sister- Joanette L. wife of  George Corle, Imler.

Jeff served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He retired after 37 years of service from Pepsi Bottling Plant of Johnstown.

Jeff was a very active member in the community and always greeted everyone with a smile, making sure everyone else was taken care of was at the top of Jeff’s priorities. He was past Governor of Bedford Moose Lodge #480, an active volunteer member and EMT for 30 years and was the current acting President  of Chestnut Ridge Ambulance Co. and also volunteered with the neighboring Shawnee Valley Ambulance Service,  a very proud member of Fort Bedford Honor Guard, VFW Post #9219- Pleasantville and Past Master of Bedford Free and Accepted Masons #320. Jeff was also currently employed by Geisel Funeral Homes.

He was a member of New Paris United Methodist Church.

Jeff was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Graveside Service at Bedford County Memorial Park will be held on Monday, December 14th, 2020 at 3:00PM with Rev. Charles Shaffer officiating.
