Mr. James Dickson "Dick" Timoney, 91, of Pennknoll Road, Everett, passed away at 6:50 PM, Thursday, February 20th, 2014 at Homewood at Martinsburg.
Mr. Timoney was born in Glascow, Scotland, on Tuesday, October 24, 1922, the son of the late William and Christine (Dunn) Timoney.
On September 11, 1947, he married Dorothy (Bergen) Timoney. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2009.
He is survived by Son- Craig J. Timoney , Bedford; Granddaughters- Lauren & Sarah Timoney, both of Hoboken, NJ; and Grandson Craig J. Timoney, Jr., Bedford. He was preceded in death by a brother, William.
When James was five years old, his family came to the United States through Ellis Island He grew up in Newark, NJ and was the son of a brick mason. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force. After he returned home from serving his country during WWII, he met Dorothy Hunter Bergen. Shortly after the two met, they decided to elope and visit Ocean City, NJ for their honeymoon.
He worked at RCA in Harrison, NJ and aided in the design and manufacturing of the gold fiber tubes which allowed communication to spacecrafts. In May of 1955, they had their only child, Craig Timoney. In 1981, James and Dorothy moved from New Jersey to Bedford, Pennsylvania to help their son fulfill his dream of opening his own Burger King Franchise. The two managed the restaurant and did the accounting, while Craig focused on expanding the business.
James and Dorothy greatly enjoyed traveling to Ocean City, NJ, Annapolis, MD and Bermuda with their grandchildren who were the loves of their lives. After the passing of his beloved wife, James continued traveling with his family until he was 90 years old. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 24th, 2014 with Pastor Adam Everly officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the funeral home in Bedford.
