James A. Hershberger, 74, of Fillo Lane, Bedford, PA, went home to be with the Lord, and to be reunited with beloved family members and friends, who have gone on before him. James passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 14, 1949, in Bedford, PA, and was the last surviving son of the late Ray and Edna (Daugherty) Hershberger of Cessna, Pa.
He is survived by his three children: daughter Tammy, wife of Jay Sigel, Bedford, PA, James Jr., husband of Nancy Cogan, Clear Spring, MD, and daughter Teena Nyahay, wife of the late Brian Nyahay, Surprise, AZ. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and two sisters, Betty, wife of the late James Miller, Bedford, PA, and Dorothy Barnes, wife of the late Russell Barnes, York, PA. James was preceded in death by one sister: Ima Jane (Darle) Long, six brothers: William, Robert, Donald, Kenneth, Connie (Pete) and Larry, half-brother Junior Michaels, and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
He attended Bedford High School and was of Protestant faith. James was employed at Horton's Truck stop from 1966-1969, followed by Pensyl's Amoco from 1969-1980. In 1980, he went to work as a press operator at Hedstrom Corporation, until its closing in 2004, after which he finished out his career as a CNC Machinist at JLG McConnellsburg, retiring in May of 2014.
James enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Pirates and the Steelers, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed helping his family, siblings, nieces and nephews with whatever they needed. He was a jack of all trades and was able to build or repair anything he put his mind to.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 11 am at Geisel-Styer Funeral Homes, Bedford with Pastor Rich Lang officiating. Friends and family may visit from 9-11 AM.
Memorial donations, in honor of James, may be made to the Bedford County Humane Society. The family would also like to thank the UPMC Hospice Team who were assisted during his final days. They were wonderful.
Interment will be at Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford
