James R. Adams

James R. Adams, 92, of Bedford, formerly of Buffalo Mills, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024. 

He was born on January 25, 1932 in Manns Choice, a son of Henrietta (Adams) Suter and George Suter. His mother died 15 days later, and he was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Sam and Sarah Adams of Buffalo Mills. 

On August 20, 1955, he married Henrietta (Felten) Adams, of New Baltimore, PA. who survives along with the following family: son- Richard Adams (Joyce), of Delaware; daughter- Lori Fleming (Jim), of Philadelphia; son- Dr. Jerry Adams, of Bedford; two granddaughters: Ashely (Matt) Daudt, of Seaford, DE. and Dr. Abigail Adams (Dentist), of Reading; and sister Fay. James is preceded in death by siblings: Walter, Harvey, Don, Paul, Cora, Pearl, and Mary Lou.

He was in the Air Force during the Korean War, from October 6, 1950 until November 6, 1954. As a S/Sgt Adams flew 78 missions in Korea as a flight engineer and gunner on a B-26, attached to psychological airfare unit, that penetrated deep into enemy territory. He received three oak leaf clusters to the air needed for missions flown in Korea. He was awarded the DFV medal, (The Distinguished Flying Cross) for saving the lives of other crew members during a combat mission. He retired from Westinghouse, Manns Choice and farmed actively until 2012. James was an avid deer hunter, and he was the best shot out of the crew.

A viewing will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Geisel-Styer Funeral Homes, Schellsburg.

Interment will be at Pleasant Ridge Church Cemetery, Buffalo Mills, PA.
