Harvey E. "Gene" Housel

Mr. Harvey E. "Gene"  Housel, 86, of Barclay St., Bedford, died at 12:19 PM, Monday, May 13th, 2013 at Altoona Hospital.

Mr. Housel was born in Bedford on Wednesday, April 27, 1927, the son of the late Harvey I. and Ora (Sheirer) Housel.

On November 1, 1947, he married Annabelle (Corley) Housel.  On November 1, 2012 Gene and Annabelle celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at the Ivy Stone Restaurant.

In addition to his wife he is survived by Daughter- Barbara L. wife of  John Imler, Bedford; Daughter- Dianne S. wife of  Charlie Connor, Wilmington, NC; Sister- Barbara "Joan" Rouzer, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kelly married to Mike Greenwald, Brandee married to Dusty Pittman, Josh Connor and Kate Connor, and three great grandchildren, BreeAnn married to Nelson Shaffer , Courtney Greenwald and Kendall Pittman. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Paul and Ted and by two sisters, Harriet "Janie" Banner and Ruth Berkebile.

Gene was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church.  He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Muliphen during W.W.II.   Gene was employed at the A&P as a manager for 31 years.  He was also employed as a salesman for H.J. Beamer Ford and then as a driver at Bedford Ford. Gene was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 17th, 2013 with Rev. Jeff Welsh officiating.

Interment will be held at  Mt. Zion Cemetery.  Graveside military rites will be accorded by Fort Bedford Honor Guard.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Bedford.
