George R. Growden

George R. Growden, 66, of Cresaptown, MD , passed away peacefully at 11:23 PM, Thursday, January 10th, 2019 at  WVU Medicine, Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Growden was born in Cumberland, MD. on December 12, 1952,  the son of the late Homer C. and Frances M.  (Ruppenkamp) Growden.

On  March 8, 1974 George married Janet (Otto) Growden.

In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Eric husband of  Ashley (Lambe) Growden, York, PA; Daughter- Brittany wife of  Michael Shriver, Rawlings, MD; Grandson- Bradley; Grandson- Jackson; Brother- Gary husband of  Kathy (Ware) Growden, Centerville; Sister- Linda wife of  Harvey Cole, Bedford; Sister- Jo Ann Snyder, Ft. Ashby, WV; Brother- Thomas Sr. husband of Sharon Growden, Bedford. George is preceded in death by Brothers- Homer, Jr. and Donald Growden.

George was a former employee for State Inspector for the Maryland Highway Administration where he was a coredriller as well as an Engineering Technician.

Mr. Growden served in the U.S. Army as a Pvt. from October 13, 1970 - March 3, 1971 where he was a Sharp Shooter with the M-16.

George loved his 1978 Corvette. He was a member of the Eagles of Cresaptown. His hobbies included: Nascar, Pittsburgh Steelers Football and spending time with his family and grandkids.

Friends will be received on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 2-4 PM at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford.

A funeral service will be held  at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford, PA. at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 14th,  with Father Rich Tomkosky - Celebrant.

Committal at Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford.
