Mr. Gabriel E. Montreal, 86, of Schellsburg, passed away at 11:30 PM, Wednesday, July 24th, 2013 at Windber Hospice.


Mr. Montreal was born in Rochester, NY on Sunday, April 17, 1927,  the son of the late Michael and Mary (Distafano) Montreal.


On November 9, 1958, in Bedford, he married Fae (Fessler) Montreal, whose marriage defined true love.


In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by Daughter- Terry A. wife of  Gary Metivier, Schellsburg; Son- Michael E. husband of  Gail (Egolf) Montreal, Schellsburg; Grandson- Anthony Montreal; Granddaughter-  Morgan Montreal; Sister- Georgie wife of  Leslie "Butch" Tyler, Seymour, CT; Sister-in-Law- Dorothy Flanders, Venice, FL; Sister-in-Law- Bertha Fessler, Waterfall; Brother-in-Law- Harry "Fuzz" Fessler, Dudley and by many nieces, nephews and cousins in the Rochester, NY area.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Montreal, six brothers-in-law, Ray Fessler, Wilmer "Babe" Fessler, Charles Flanders, Kenneth Morningstar, Stanley Stevens and Wayne Stoner and by five sisters-in-law, Jean Fessler, Harriet Morningstar, Olive Stevens, Cleoma Stoner and Nancy Fessler


Gabe was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Baltimore.  He worked many years for the Bedford Springs and retired from the maintenance staff at the Bedford Post Office.  Gabe served in the US Navy, receiving a honorable discharge in 1946 and receiving the W.W.II Victory Ribbon.  He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1707 in Bedford.

Gabe enjoyed many activities, including his jaunts with his friend, John Coyle of Bedford.  He was a gourmet chef and those who received his famous loaves of bread considered themselves very lucky.  In his free time, he and his wife Fae loved working on crossword puzzles together and when the weather permitted it, he was an avid golfer.


Gabe liked watching Penn State Football and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  But, above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his two beloved grandchildren, Tony and Morgan.

Committal Services were held at St. Johns Cemetery, New Baltimore.

There will be a public memorial service  at 11:00 am in the Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg.Saturday, September 21, 2013, with Father Richard Tomkosky, officiant.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home.
