Ernest Berkey

Ernest Berkey, 94, of Osterburg, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Richland Healthcare & Rehab Center, Johnstown, PA.

Ernest was born in Lovely, Pennsylvania on May 1, 1928, the son of the late Irvin and Alice (Taylor) Berkey.

Ernest married Mae (Cameron) Berkey on May 28, 1948, and she preceded him in death on November 17, 1995. On April 12, 1997, he married Doris (Nunamaker) Defibaugh- Berkey.

In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by daughter- Phyllis Berkey, Johnstown; daughter- Joyce wife of Guy Calhoun, Bedford; daughter- Betty wife of Daniel Whetstone, New Paris; daughter- Janice wife of Brian Bence, VA; daughter- Sharon wife of Michael Stone, OH; step-daughter- Eileen Harbaugh widow of Ronald Harbaugh, New Paris; step-daughter- Debra wife of Tim Wise, York; step-daughter- Cheryl wife of Rodney Berkey, New Paris; as well as 9 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Ernest is preceded in death by his first wife Mae (Cameron) Berkey.

Ernest was a member of Faith Brethren Bible Church, a founding member of Alum Bank Community Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the Lions Club, volunteer at Old Bedford Village for many years as a gun smith, and a NRA member.

He was a Delivery Driver for Harris-Boyer and was a Terminal Manager for George Transfer. Ernest enjoyed hunting, fishing and building muzzleloaders.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home- Alum Bank.

A funeral service will follow on Saturday, June 18 at 11 AM at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home- Alum Bank with Pastor James Espenshade officiating. Interment will be at Mount Union Cemetery- Lovely, PA.
