Donald Leroy Gilbert

Mr. Donald Leroy Gilbert, 80, a resident of Pennknoll Village, formerly of Bedford Colonial Courtyard and the Everett Christian Home, died at 9:45 AM, Friday, January 27th, 2012 at the nursing home.

Mr. Gilbert was born in Polo, IL on Monday, December 21, 1931,  the son of the late Willard and Viola (Everly) Gilbert.

He is survived by  Daughter- Cynthia wife of  Wayne Sollenberger, Everett; Daughter- Susan wife of  Matthew Ellison, Stevensville, MD; Daughter- Teresa wife of  Stephen Bowles, Sterling, VA; Son- Michael Gilbert husband of  Sue, Naples, FL; Sister- June Boeckh, Elgin, IL; Sister- Elaine wife of  Russell Mount, Sun City, AZ; Brother- Willard "Bill" Gilbert husband of  Sherri, Polo, IL. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Don was raised in the Brethren Faith.  He was honorably discharged from the US Navy after serving during the Korean War.  Don was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the Washington, D.C. area.  While living in the Everett Christian Home, he could be seen regularly enjoying walks up and down Masters Avenue.  Don was also fond of visiting with his neighbors and friends in the homes he lived.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be held at  Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon, IL.
