Mr. David G. VanPelt, Jr., 77, of Younts Road, Bedford, passed away at 5:56 AM, Thursday, March 20th, 2014 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.

Mr. VanPelt was born in Elkton, MD on Wednesday, October 7, 1936,  the son of the late David G. VanPelt, Sr. and Frances (Hayes) VanPelt.

On September 28, 1958, he married Shelby M. (Milliken) VanPelt.  She preceded him in death on January 4, 2013.

He is survived by  Son- David G. VanPelt, III, Bedford; Daughter- Janet wife of  Glen Smith, Bedford; Daughter- Dorothy wife of  Charles Howell, III, Florida; Son- Thomas VanPelt, New Paris; Sister- Barbara Lee, Newark, DE. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Arthur McMillen and a daughter, Leslie Anne VanPelt.

David was a member of the New London Presbyterian Church, where he was a former Deacon.  He served in the Air National Guard of Delaware.  David was a lifelong dairy farmer.  He served on the Board of Directors for Southern States in Newark, DE and was a member of the Atlantic and Land O Lakes Milk Co-ops.  When David was younger, he was a member of 4-H and showed his dairy cattle at the same venues that his grandchildren did years later.

David was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and especially fishing.  He was an avid bird watcher, a model train enthusiast and enjoyed both bowling and riding his motorcycle.

A Graveside Service will be held Messiah Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bedford at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2014 with Pastor Donna Wolfinger officiating.

Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard

Friends are invited to join the family at a luncheon at the Bedford American Legion following the service.
