Mr. Clarence M. "Sambo" Cessna,90, of Bedford Valley Road, Bedford, died Sunday, August 7th, 2016 at Allegany Health Nursing Rehab Center, Cumberland.
Mr. Cessna was born in Rainsburg on Saturday, August 15, 1925, the son of the late William and Goetha (May) Cessna.
He was the widower of Mary L. (Glotfelty) Cessna, whom he married on September 1, 1950 and she preceded him in death on February 13, 2016.
Sambo is survived by 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He was preceded in death by 2 brother and 1 sister
Sambo was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He worked on his uncles farm as a young teenager. At age 19, he joined the Merchant Marines serving from 1944-1947 and was very widely traveled around the world. Sambo was a Corporal in the US Army serving as a MP. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator then as a truck driver. Sambo was a hunter and a fisherman and a very excellent marksman. Clarence was invited by the NRA International Shoot Committee for one of their events. He also received a distinguished shooting award from Winchester Arms. Sambo won numerous trap shooting championships in the Tri-State Area. Sambo was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a very proud Democrat.
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 13th, 2016 with Pastor Joyce Hillegass officiating.
Interment at Woods Church Cemetery, Rainsburg. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
Friends are invited to call on Friday from 5-8 PM at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford.
