Mrs. Clara F. "Tat" Hillegass, 86, of Hillegass Road, Schellsburg, passed away at 4:34 PM, Tuesday, April 28th, 2015 at Conemaugh Medical Center, Johnstown.
Mrs. Hillegass was born in E. Providence Twp. on Monday, April 15, 1929, the daughter of the late Marshall and Jessie Maude (Grove) Collins.
On March 3, 1951, she married Clarence S. "Hun" Hillegass. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2012.
She is survived by Son Wayne S. husband of Lori (Haydu) Hillegass, Schellsburg; Son- Henry A. husband of Terry (Motter) Hillegass, Bedford; Sister- Lucy Leizer, Laurel, MD; Sister- Carol Gunter, Sykesville, MD; Special Nephew- Michael Hillegass, Schellsburg; sister-in-law- Della Collins, Johnstown. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Matthew Hillegass, Kaitlin wife of Adam Egolf, Lindsey, wife of Michael Bowman & Aaron Hillegass, and two great grandsons, Jaxson & Sean. She was preceded in death by a brother, Galen Collins, a sister, Phyllis Beegle and a stepbrother, Marshall Doyle.
Tat was a farmwife and along with her late husband, co-owned Hillegass Campground. She was a charter member of the United Church of Schellsburg. Tat was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Schellsburg VFW Post #4440 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company. She was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge #480, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Silver Springs, FL and the New Baltimore Sportsman's Club. Tat enjoyed spending her winters in Ocala, FL and loved any time she spent with her family. She will be remembered for the warmth and generosity that she extended to anyone she met. Tat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and she will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held at United Church of Schellsburg at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 1st, 2015 with Rev. Ruth Shaver officiating.
Interment will be held at Schellsburg Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg and on Friday from 10:30 - 11:00 AM at the church.
