Mr. Charles "Gary" Tavel, Sr., 77, of Victoria Ave, Everett, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Tavel was born July 5, 1939 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Ewing Hows Tavel, Sr. and Susie (Leek) Tavel.
On October 7, 1989, he married Ruby (Bailey) Tavel. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Charles G. Tavel Jr. (Lynn), daughter Cheryl Sally (Wally), daughter Cindy Michalski (PJ), daughter Tori Sue Tavel (Diane), son David Tavel, daughter Janet Talbot (Gary). He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jayme and Jeff Fletcher; Casey and Matt Greenstreet; Leila Sally; Shannon, Matthew and Tom Talbot; Lindsey Tavel; and by six great grandchildren: Maddie, Harper, Delaney, Wyatt, Collin and Braydin and by a sister, Honey "Sis" Hackett, Pinehurst, NC. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Tavel, and by four brothers.
Gary attended Holy Cross Church in Maryland and the Everett United Methodist Church. He was an auto mechanic by trade and retired from the maintenance department at the University of Maryland. Gary loved working with wood. He was a self-taught carpenter who built the house in Breezewood where he lived with Ruby, the love of his life. He was a wonderful man and he will be greatly missed.
A memorial service officiated by Pastors Debi Decker and John Bennett will be held at 11am Saturday, April 1, at Homewood at Springhouse Estates.
Memorial donations may be made to Home Nursing Hospice, 227 Hospital Drive, Everett PA 15537. Gary and Ruby loved their Home Nursing Hospice “family” for the expert and loving care they provided, with special thanks to nurse Danielle, aide Tammy, Pastor John and social worker Debbie Rightenour.
