Cecelia M. "Tootie" Croop 88, formerly of Schellsburg, PA and most recently residing at
Homewood at Martinsburg, PA peacefully passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 28,2023.
Tootie was born in Berwick, PA on March 31, 1934 a daughter of the late Isabelle and Theodore Woll. On May 28, 1952 Tootie married her beloved Milt, Milton H. Croop in Berwick, Pa. where they lived and welcomed their precious only child, Brenda Leigh.
Tootie, Milt and Brenda relocated to Schellsburg in 1957 which became their forever home.They enjoyed 40 years of marriage until Milt succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 1993. Over the years Tootie enjoyed working at Maurices Department Store and as the Service Manager for Sears, both located in Bedford.
Her active life included bowling, skiing, golf, camping and Penn State Football. Tootie volunteered for the American Cancer Society, serving on the ACS board, co-chairing Daffodil Days and was active in Relay for Life. She also sat on the boards of RSVP, Children and Youth Services and the Shawnee Valley Ambulance Association. Many times, leading the organizations as their President.
Tootie was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schellsburg and volunteered many hours making Easter eggs and preparing food for different functions.
In her spare time, Tootie was the quintessential hostess of the Croop House, cooking for and entertaining neighbors and friends.
Cecelia "Tootie" Croop is survived by daughter Brenda Gillum of Clarksburg, WVA, Grandsons Christopher R. Gillum (Fallon) Schellsburg, Nicholas T. Gillum (companion Lindsy Rush) and Jonathan J. Gillum (companion Sierra Baker) both of WVA, great grandchildren Paiton, Mackson, Asher, Landen and Norah and longtime companion Marvin Bennett. Tootie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son-in-law Harry Gillum and siblings Charles T. Woll, Wilber F. "Dutch" Woll and Marcella "Sis" Everett.
Funeral Services will be held at the Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home in Schellsburg at 1 PM, Monday, March 6, 2023. Visitation will be from 11 AM until the time of service. Interment will be at the Schellsburg Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Homewood at Martinsburg Benevolent Fund, 437 Givler Dr., Martinsburg, PA 16662 or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org/donate.
