Mr. C. Alva Hostetler, 96, of Meadow Road, Osterburg, died Sunday, December 9th, 2012 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hostetler was born in Richland Township on Sunday, June 25, 1916, the son of the late Clyde and Minnie (Fry) Hostetler.
On April 5, 1942, he married Helen (Creighton) Hostetler. She preceded him in death on February 25, 1992.
He is survived by Daughter- Sandra K. Smith and companion Jim Rowzer, Fishertown; Granddaughter- Terri wife of Joe Thompson, Osterburg; Granddaughter- Traci wife of Steve Helfer, Dumfries, VA; Granddaughter- Trudi wife of Tom Oldham, Osterburg; Granddaughter- Tricia "Bink" wife of Tom Wright, Bedford; Sister-in-Law- Fern Hostetler. , and three great grandchildren, Jill Sciranko, Carli Helfer and Ethan Helfer and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie, four sisters, Verda Hostetler, Pauline Barefoot, Georgia Berkey and Sally Pittman and by a brother, Robert Hostetler
Alva was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Osterburg, where he sung in the church choir. He was a farmer, who also worked for the Bedford County Government, acting first as an Assessor, then becoming the Chief Assessor, then working as the Chief Clerk for the county. Alva then served two terms as a Bedford County Commissioner. He was an avid gardener and hunter. Alva was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed by his family and his friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville, at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 12th, 2012 with Pastor Charlie Miller officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the funeral home in Pleasantville.
