Barbara Joan (pronounced Jo Ann) Rouzer, 82, of Fleming Island, FL, formerly of Cumberland, MD died Thursday, June 23rd, 2016 surrounded by her children
She was born in Bedford, on June 17, 1934, the daughter of the late Harvey Irvin and Ora (Sheirer) Housel.
Barbara Joan was married to Eugene H. "Mickey" Rouzer. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2004. They were married 52 years.
She is survived by son Robert, husband of Leah (Zembower) Rouzer, Fleming Island, FL; daughter Brenda, widow of Tom Doherty, Alexandria, VA; son Troy, husband of Kelly Rouzer, Soddy-Daisy, TN. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Ryan Rouzer, Kelsey Rouzer, Kailee Rouzer, Camden Rouzer, and Waylon Rouzer. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Lester, Paul, Ted and Harvey “Gene” and by two sisters: Harriet “Janie” Banner and Ruth Berkebile. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Barbara Joan was a member of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL. She devoted her time and talents to the musical programs of various churches throughout her life. She played the piano, the organ and directed various choirs. She was also an accomplished singer. In addition to being an extraordinary homemaker, Barbara Jo Ann taught piano and influenced the lives of several young musicians. She used her many gifts to help others and provided a warm, inviting haven for friends & family over the years.
A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 with Pastor Adam Kravets officiating.
Interment will be held at Bedford Cemetery, beside her husband
Friends are invited to attend the funeral and to call on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Louis Geisel Funeral Home in Bedford.
