Anthony "Tony" L. Wagner III
Friends Cove
Anthony Lewis Wagner III, 86, passed away at home on the family farm in Friends Cove on Sunday, May 5, 2024. His entire family was able to say goodbye and share how much they loved him.
Tony was born on January 16, 1938 on Patterson Park Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were the late Anthony L. Wagner, Jr. and Evelyn Sikora Wagner. He grew up in Oliver Beach along the shore of the Gunpowder River and the Chesapeake Bay.
On December 21, 1963, he married the late Joan (Zeltman) Wagner in Sykesville, Maryland. She passed away in 1980. On March 17, 1984, he married Saundra S. (Hartman) Wagner. They celebrated 40 years of marriage earlier this year.
Tony is survived by his wife Sandy and the following children: Anthony L. Wagner IV, married to Linda of Friends Cove; Robert Fyfe, Jr., married to Lou Ann of Windber; and Stephanie Glodek, married to Andrew of Amberson. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kayla Bailey, wife of Gregory; Anthony L. Wagner V; Joshua Wagner; Steven Glodek; Hannah Fyfe; and Dylan Glodek and step-grandchildren Tiarra Morris and Amber Miller. Additionally, he is survived by great-granddaughters Laurel Bailey and Charlotte Bailey, and step-great-grandson Weston Morris.
Tony attended Kenwood Junior High School. He served in the Army Reserves, completing his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. A gifted mechanic and engineer with a green thumb, his parents saved their money to purchase a farm in Sykesville, Maryland so that he could live his dream of becoming a farmer. In Sykesville, he farmed and worked at the Springfield Hospital as an engineer. In 1970, the Wagner's moved to Friends Cove where he established one of the most productive hog and small grain farms in the county. Wagner Farm was recognized as the first in Bedford County to enter the Farm Preservation Program. He served the Friends Cove United Church of Christ as a member and president of the consistory and cemetery association, as well as maintaining the church's furnace. For nine years, he drove students for Maxwell Transportation. He was an avid reader, a critical thinker, a gifted storyteller, a comedian, and - most importantly - a truly loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. There are many more things that could be said about his remarkable life. But, as he would say, "that's about all she wrote." We miss him more than he could ever know.
The family expresses its tremendous gratitude to Grammy for taking such good care of Pap, along with a very special social worker Tammy, nurses Caitlin, Kinsley, and Kelly, and aide Tammy at Grane Hospice, Dr. David Baer, and many other doctors and nurses.
At his request, there will be no viewing or service. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to spend a few extra hours with a friend or a member of your family that you love and make them laugh in honor of our beloved Pap / Pops.
