Alverna E. Heltzel, 83, of Eichler Road, Fishertown, passed away on Wednesday, May 11th, 2016 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home.

Alverna was born in Friends Cove on Thursday, May 26, 1932,  the daughter of the late Ira Heltzel and Ada G. (Rose) Heltzel Palmer.

She is survived by Son- David W. Perrin, Artemas; Son- Dennis P. Heltzel, Friends Cove; Daughter- Joy J. widow of Ronnie Nicholson, Middle Island, NY; Son- Carl L. Heltzel husband of Corrine, Fishertown; Son- Thomas L. Heltzel husband of Christine, Roaring Spring; Sister- Grace wife of Garnett Reasner, Citra, FL; Brother- Barron widower of Gloria Helsel, Orlando, FL. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren and by a large extended family.  She was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Carl L. Oldham and by two brothers, Johnny & Bobby.

Alverna was previously employed at the Bedford Springs Hotel, the Everett Shoe Factory and in the Bakery at Olde Bedford Village.  She also worked concessions for Mae's Concessions at the Bedford County Fairgrounds and worked in housekeeping.  Alverna was a kind and generous woman of the Christian Faith.  She enjoyed cooking, working on her puzzle books, going on car rides and fishing.  Alverna loved her family and any time she spent with them was precious to her.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and she will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 14th, 2016 with Rev. Paul Claycomb officiating.

Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Geisel Funeral Home in Bedford.
