Mr. Allen L. Schooley, Sr., 88, of Bedford, went to his eternal home on Wednesday, January 27th, 2016 at UPMC Altoona Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Schooley was born in Harrisonville on Friday, February 25, 1927, the son of the late A. Vernon and Bertha (Hanks) Schooley.
On March 17, 1985, he married Jean (Guyton) Rightnour Foor Schooley. In addition to his wife he is survived by Daughter- Louise wife of Randy T. Smith, Chambersburg; Son- Allen L. Schooley, Jr. husband of Wanda (Clark) Schooley, Greencastle; Step Daughter- Melissa Foor, Everett; Step Daughter- Pam Shelton, Bedford; Step Son- Charles husband of Glenda Rightnour, Everett. Allen is also survived my numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace (Shippy) Schooley, two brothers, Leroy A. Schooley & Foster Schooley and by a sister, Marvalene Schooley.
Allen was a member of the First Christian Church in Everett, where he previously sang in the choir and was the church treasurer for many years. He served in the US Army in Germany during W.W.II in the Finance Corps. Allen attended Temple University in Philadelphia and studied finance. He sold insurance throughout the local area for Prudential & Washington National Insurance Companies. Allen also worked for PPG Industries in Maryland for 20 years and was a dispatcher for Wilson Freight in Bedford and Jones Motor Company in Mechanicsburg. Upon his retirement, he worked part-time as a front desk attendant at the Best Western in Breezewood.
Allen was a lifetime member of both the Everett American Legion and the Everett Fire Company. He loved music and taught himself to play the guitar and the dulcimer. Allen enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a former member of the Everett Sportsman's Club. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, devoted grandfather and loyal friend and he will be greatly missed. .
A funeral service will be held at First Christian Church, Everett at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016 with Rev. Robert Robertson officiating.
Interment will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery, Colerain Township. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
Friends are invited to call on Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford and Tuesday 12:30 - 1:00 PM at the church.
